At the Big Ten Neuroscience Conference hosted by Penn State University, trainees from the laboratories of Drs. Anthony Kline and Corina Bondi showcased the outstanding research culture fostered in the Department of PMR and the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research. Maeve O’Brien, a postbaccalaureate trainee in Dr. Bondi’s lab, was awarded a competitive travel grant for having the highest scored abstract from 155 submissions and was one of only two undergraduate researchers selected to deliver an oral presentation at the conference. The other undergraduate presenter was Haley Capeci, also a postbaccalaureate trainee in Dr. Kline’s lab. Maeve followed the keynote presentation of NINDS Director Dr. Walter J. Koroshetz. Priyal Goyal, an undergraduate trainee, received the best poster presentation award. Additional undergraduate researchers Ainsley Kindred and Gemma DeSanzo (both from the Bondi lab) also presented their work at the conference, contributing to PMR and the Safar center’s strong representation.

Trainees participating through the Children’s Hospital Summer Research Internship Program also received accolades. Mariel Arevalo Ballon (Kline lab) and Rachel Shkolnik (Bondi lab), both from the University of Maryland, College Park, were recognized with top poster presentation awards.

Finally, Jasmin Sawhney (Kline lab) and Shaylen Thakrar (Bondi lab) were accepted into the highly competitive CNUP Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Justin Bryant (Bondi lab) was awarded a travel scholarship to attend and present his research at the 2025 SACNAS NDiSTEM Conference in Columbus, Ohio, this October.  Hailey Donald (Bondi lab) was accepted to The Ohio State University for graduate training.

These recognitions reflect the strength of mentorship in both the Bondi and Kline labs, as well as PMR and the Safar Center’s commitment to excellence in neuroscience and rehabilitative research and its dedication to training the next generation of scientific leaders.
