Why did you choose UPMC residency program?
During medical school, I really loved learning about the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. PM&R focuses on both of these organ systems and was the perfect fit for me. I really enjoy working in the team-based environment of PM&R. The opportunity to build relationships with patients, help them through a difficult time in their lives, and help them achieve their goals also attracted me to the field of PM&R. In PM&R, I will have the opportunity to work with patients of all ages, in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, and will not only serve as their physician, but also as their “coach/motivator/team-leader.”
In choosing a PM&R program at which to train, I was searching for a program that provided excellent training in all subspecialties of PM&R. UPMC fit this criterion with its well-renowned, diverse faculty teachers. I felt like the PM&R department at UPMC was like a big family, where the program directors and faculty were very responsive to feedback and really focused on training residents. The opportunities to conduct research at UPMC are unparalleled elsewhere. I felt like training at UPMC would set me up for success in any career path within the field of PM&R.
