Why did you choose UPMC residency program?
Prior to entering medical school, I saw a physiatrist due to a sports medicine injury of my own. I left the clinic feeling both fascinated and excited about the field; as I continued to experience and learn more about the field, my initial emotions were reinforced. PM&R, with its emphasis on restoring function and quality of life, foundation in the musculoskeletal and neurological systems, and its intrinsic reliance on interdisciplinary medicine, is a natural fit for me.
Growing up in a suburb of Pittsburgh, I was drawn to the idea of coming home for many reasons. However, I chose UPMC for the people in the program and what the program offers. Having the chance to rotate here as a medical student, I observed firsthand the camaraderie and collegiality throughout the department – from the attendings to the residents. I was (and am) excited about the abundance of opportunities UPMC provides regarding clinical training, research, education, and leadership. I chose UPMC as I know I’ll enjoy my time here and come out prepared to pursue any career in physiatry that I desire.
