Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellowship
The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh is pleased to offer an ACGME accredited (#3454113017) Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellowship on an annual basis. This program is one of 20 accredited SCI training programs nationwide. A physical medicine and rehabilitation trained and Board Certified/Board Eligible applicant is preferred.
Fellows are trained at UPMC Mercy, a level 1 trauma center and home to the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute. Fellows also rotate through UPMC Presbyterian and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. The one year curriculum includes training in urology, inpatient spinal cord injury rehabilitation, consults and acute care, pulmonary medicine, outpatient spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and research. Fellows participate in a continuity clinic.
Fellows are mentored in clinical practice by PM&R and SCIM board-certified faculty. The research mentorship team includes the fellowship director and investigators engaged in research of interest to the fellow. In addition to the training experiences in our hospital based settings, our fellows receive funding to attend one national conference, such as the ASCIP or ASIA annual meetings.
Interested physicians can download the application and submit all required materials by mail. Completed applications will be reviewed and personal interviews offered by invitation only. Interviews may be conducted at the ASCIP annual meeting each September in order to reduce applicant travel. Applicants for this program must submit their rank list through the Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Match in the NRMP. We are recruiting for our next fellow to start in July 2017.
