Martin Oudega, PhD is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a secondary appointment in the Department of Neurobiology.

Dr. Oudega received a PhD in Medical Biology from the University of Leiden, Leiden, the Netherlands in 1990. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Neurobiology at the University of California at San Diego, La Jolla, California in 1993. Dr. Oudega worked in the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at the University of Miami School of Medicine in various capacities including postdoctoral associate, instructor of Neurological Surgery, and assistant professor in Neurological Surgery until 2005. He was the recipient of the Daniel Heumann International Scholar award from 2003-2009. Dr. Oudega holds a voluntary assistant professorship in Neurological Surgery at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He was an assistant professor in Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 2005-2008. During that time, Dr. Oudega was also a research scientist at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and the director of the Animal Injury and Repair core facility.

Dr. Oudega is presently researching the reparative potential of cell transplantation, axon growth-promoting factors, and/or axon growth-inhibitor neutralization for spinal cord injury. He is a member of various Societies including the Society of Neuroscience and the American Society of Gene Therapy. Dr. Oudega is a contributor and reviewer for over 20 national and international journals including Journal of Neurotrauma, Experimental Neurology, Neuroscience. He is the author of several book chapters and monographs.
